Art Business News recent had the opportunity to speak with Sabrina Evan, founder and curator of SAB Gallery Collection, about the gallery’s expansion and success —and their launch into a dedicated booth at Red Dot Miami 2025.

ABN: Sabrina, it’s great to have the opportunity to spend a little time with you and learn more about SAB Gallery Collection, your mission, and growth.

SE: SAB Gallery Collection was born from recognizing a clear gap in the art industry: the underrepresentation of female creatives. From day one, our mission has been to create a platform dedicated to educating, promoting, and empowering women in the arts. We believe that art is not just about aesthetics — it’s about amplifying voices, telling untold stories, and building a movement where women artists are celebrated and supported. What began as a passionate response to this need has grown into a gallery with a strong national presence, committed to shaping the narrative of contemporary art through the lens of female creativity.

ABN: For the past several years, SAB has been exhibiting as part of the Perseus Gallery’s booth at Red Dot Miami. This year is different. Tell us about it.

SE: This year at Red Dot Miami, SAB Gallery Collection is stepping into a new chapter with a dedicated booth designed as a special installation and immersive visual experience. We wanted to create a space that resonates deeply with collectors who are passionate about supporting women in the arts. The decision came from both momentum and mission — after seeing the excitement and demand around our past showcases, it became clear that we needed to expand our presence to fully express our curatorial vision. Our booth will not only highlight outstanding works but also serve as an inspiring environment for dialogue, discovery, and connection.

ABN: Tell us a bit more about the artists you will be featuring at Red Dot Miami 2025.

SE: SAB Gallery Collection’s lineup this year reflects both continuity and growth. We are proud to showcase many returning artists like Peyton Scott, Claudia Concha, and Lindsay Tobias (who received an award during the Art San Diego 2024 exhibition) and whose careers we have been actively promoting and nurturing, alongside exciting new talents who bring fresh perspectives to our platform. Through consistent curatorial work, national fair participation, and dynamic social media engagement, we’ve been building a community that supports artists on a long-term journey.

ABN: Sabrina, how do you find the artists that become part of the SAB Gallery Collection?

SE: Our open calls and artist opportunities have become a way for new voices to step forward — and several of these emerging creatives will be joining our Red Dot presentation. Together, the artists form a powerful collective: a blend of established names and new discoveries, unified by the shared mission of using art as a vehicle for storytelling, empowerment, and change.

ABN: We can’t wait to see what SAB Gallery Collection and their artists bring to the Red Dot Miami fair this year. The SAB presentation has always been innovative. It sounds like the artwork, the energy, and the collaboration will come

Let’s get right into it! Miami Art Week 2024 was a jam packed week full of must-see exhibits and jaw dropping spectacle. As an art junkie, I always get my fix shuttling between fairs and soaking in the different vibes each fair presents.

The Beach

Art Basel is still the king of the fairs during Art Week — full of larger-than-life installations. The entire “Meridians” art space was dedicated to mammoth creations that were ‘walkable,’ including the most impressive titled “Nearby, Pathway (2024) — a huge paper work by Chinese-born German artist Zhu Jinshii, presented by Basel newcomer, Pearl Lam Galleries. Made of 16,000 sheets of traditional Xuan paper, the work was suspended by steel frames and threads of bamboo and cotton, arranged in a disjointed configuration that allowed visitors to enter and be enveloped by the semicircular works.  However, the most impressive space I thought from this year happened to be the Collector’s Lounge, which was tranquil and serene with art-filled rooms situated around the outskirts of the lounge by the likes of CHUBB insurance and Samsung.

There’s nothing like drifting through the sand to get to Untitled and Scope’s tents. It’s all part of the art week experience! The work at Untitled is always impressive and thought provoking. Gorgeous works from the art world’s best are in every aisle. Untitled creates a fun bright beach vibe while continually asking important questions of the viewer.

It’s always fun to see the installations at Scope’s “The New Contemporary” space before wandering the aisles or attending some unique programming. This year’s show looked great and felt very vibrant and still accessible.

Wynwood

Art Miami and Context’s opening night was very busy and had everything for serious collectors and party goers alike. Large pieces comprised of smaller pieces all coming together that ideally are viewed at a distance were throughout the fairs. Current art trends like monumental sculptures and installation works were also a big part of the fairs.

I always think that NADA has unique offerings and is a great place to find up and coming artists. I like the layout and feel of this show and find the selection of art eclectic and interesting.

Spectrum and Red Dot got off to a great start with a busy opening night. These two fairs offer a fun vibe and approachable art. Attendance was strong all weekend with galleries and artists reporting lots of sales throughout.

Overall, though there is some caution right now about larger purchases, as buyers seem to be tightening their purse strings…Miami Art Week did have significant art sales and a decent turnout at the fairs. Many noted there didn’t seem to be that standout, shocking work that was going viral on everyone’s social media channels. While not its biggest year, it was a fun and enjoyable week with a lot of notable works. And as always it left me looking forward to Art Week 2025.

AGI's booth at Artexpo New York 2024 with Exhibition Coordinator, Evan Haubner and Director, Sabrina Gilbertson

Agora Gallery was founded in 1984, on Greene Street in Soho, by Miki Stiles, an artist who sought to create a hub for emerging artists working in similar mediums and methodologies to come together to present their work. Agora Gallery’s name comes from the Greek word “ἀγορά,” meaning “open marketplace,” a place where people gather not only to buy and sell goods, but also to meet like-minded individuals and exchange news and ideas – a place where everyone is welcome. With those ideals in mind, Agora Gallery showcases a spectacular array of talented artists from both across the globe, and from the local New York area, inviting collectors to view their work both in-person in the gallery, as well as on its online gallery.

Art Business News recently had the opportunity to meet with Agora’s Director, Sabrina Gilbertson, and get her perspective on the gallery, its business, and their upcoming exhibition at Red Dot Miami during Miami Art Week.

ABN:  Introduce yourself — who are you, what is the vision of the gallery, and how do you work with artists?

SG: I am the Director of Agora Gallery, which under the Agora Group, houses AGI Fine Art, an artist agency focused on promotion for artists. I have worked in the New York City art world for nearly two decades, and my experience includes curating exhibitions, coordinating art fairs, and overseeing professional growth for emerging and mid-career artists from around the world.

AGI Fine Art connects artists to exhibition opportunities and industry expertise. Its methodology looks back to roots under the Agora Group, which combines over 40 years of experience in the New York art market. Our shared vision is to provide tailored career guidance, enhance visibility and help navigate the evolving art landscape throughout each stage of artistic development.

ABN:. What is your background and how does it fit with the history of the Agora Group?

SG: Not unlike many of us working in the art world, including Agora’s founder, the late Miki Stiles, I am an artist. I was classically trained at Boston University and moved to New York following my studies. While I didn’t know at the time precisely where that move would lead, I was always certain that I needed to be surrounded by art. I started working at Agora in 2008, as part of the team led by former director, Angela Di Bello

Agora's booth at Red Dot Miami 2021
Collective exhibition, Echo of the Seasons, at Agora Gallery in New York

ABN: What is your work philosophy and how does that impact the gallery?

SG: Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with an inspiring compass of art professionals and talented individuals. As an artist myself, I understand the sensitivity that both challenges and propels creativity, as well as the balance of storytelling. In my professional career, this background has not only allowed me to connect more deeply with my artists, but has also been integral to my approach when it comes to curation, commercial marketability and artist promotion in the gallery.

Community is also an important value for me, and aligns with the mission Miki envisioned for Agora — a creative hub where artists could come together to present their work, share ideas and shine opportunities for new talent in a highly competitive market. This foundation continues to guide our programs today.

ABN: What is the best advice you’ve received?

SG: Slow down. In such a fast-paced environment, it’s easy to get swept up in the constant movement; however, I think some of our greatest successes are in those quiet moments when we can step back with clear eyes, and be open to a fresh perspective.

Agora's booth at Red Dot Miami 2021

ABN: Tell us about participating in Red Dot Miami 2024 — why is it important and what it means to the gallery and your artists?

SG: For us, Red Dot offers an important entry point to the Miami market and global art fair audience. Having exhibited at Red Dot for a number of years, we know we can count on a professional fair team, high foot traffic, engaging attendees and heightened visibility.

Miami Art Week casts a unique net that has the ability to pair diverse pockets of artists with equally dynamic collectors. There’s something for everyone, which can’t always be said for art events of similar scale, and Red Dot is no exception. The energy is electric and the exposure simply invaluable.

ABN: When you are not working, where can we find you?

SG: With my family! As a mother of two, most of my time and energy is absorbed by the constant dance between work and parenting. I try to carve out space for creativity whenever I can. I’ve learned that remaining open to making or absorbing art in any form, even when it feels impossible, is not only necessary, but makes me a better human, and sets a great example for my kids.

His new and exciting work was introduced at SOFA 1997 in Chicago and the response was very enthusiastic – dynamic sculptures reflecting depth and dimension, a new approach to contemporary glass art and design. He is excited to bring his innovative works to Red Dot Miami for the very first time.

Represented by ACT Contemporary

Born in Izmir to architect parents, Dilek Uzunoglu Ors’s interest in painting began at a young age. After her undergraduate studies in economics and a postgraduate degree in business administration, she worked in managerial positions in various multinational companies.

Ors had the opportunity to continue her interest in painting during the pandemic and developed a passion for abstract expressionism which led her to further develop her talent as an abstract painter. She is known for her bold use of color and complex layering. Her abstract style allows the viewer to have a visual experience that evokes feelings of well-being, joy of life, and dreaming.

Ors explains her inspiration and process: “I take my inspiration from nature, music, cinema, literature, and stories of everyday people. I am trying to interpret the world the way I see it, and I am in a continuous search for freedom and balance. I love to work with different materials and tools including those recycled, use uncommon color matches, and create texture. I am in search of more dynamics and light in painting and experimenting with different materials and techniques. In my working process, I am following the unconscious. The colors are used autonomously and give the drive for the creation. I am working with multilayers and with recycled paints and found objects, which are integrated into the canvas to create depth and texture.”

Ors’ goal is to create a personal work containing variations that never end, always trying to continue the process of creating and sharing. Art becomes a journey for the artist to seek meaning and self-fulfillment. Her paintings consist of layers and thickness, some with more transparent colors and spontaneous brush movements. Through her art, she hopes to spread her energy and joy of life with other people.

Influenced by Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Damian Hirst, she revels in their experimentation with various methods and mediums, and how they were able to create works that were unlike anything that had been seen before. Ors aspires to do the same with her use of color and layering techniques.

Yang Dong is one of the world’s leading sculptors. Born in Tianjin, China in 1967, and currently resides in Los Angeles. His work depicts a variety of subjects including animals, people, and abstract artworks. His sculptures have been exhibited throughout China and around the world and have garnered him numerous international awards.

Yang’s fascination with animals and artistic talent were evident at an early age. As a young boy he often closely observed horses, bulls, and birds, and admired his grandfather’s collection of European sculptures and photographs. These inspired him to make little models of animals out of plasticine. In the coming years Yang participated in various competitions including the Finnish International Children’s Art Competition and won a number of awards.

As a young man, Yang attended the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and after graduating in 1990 enrolled in the Central Academy of Arts in Beijing for training. The head of the sculpture department at the time was the famous artist Mr. Qian Shao Wu. Recognizing Yang’s extraordinary talent, he appointed Yang as his assistant and they collaborated on many projects together for over 8 years. In 1996, Yang moved to Shanghai and it was at this time that his career began to take off. One of his first notable commissions was the sculpture “Happy Family” located at the entrance of East Nanjing Road, which is one of the busiest pedestrian roads in Shanghai. Another important works Yang created during these years were the pair of lions in front of HSBC Bank. Sculptures “Clock” and “Equestrian – Beyond,” both of which were located in the first and only 80,000-seat stadium in Shanghai at that time. “Racing” 18 horses located in West Yan An Road in Shanghai. “Wondering” was created and collected by International Olympic Committee in Switzerland.

During the last fifteen years, Yang has created over 100 shelf sculptures and 30 commissioned sculptures in many cities’ iconic locations. Of the on-shelf artworks, they have been selected for a variety of domestic and international exhibitions and won first place or second place in many of them. One of the most notable works is “Fortune,” which Yang created in 2009, and was exhibited at the 86th Salon de Antonio in Madrid, Spain in 2019. The sculpture “Whisky” won second place in the animal category of the 16th National Portrait Society in 2020. Sculpture “Afar” won the first place in the American Art Award; also won the honorable mention of the Professional League of America Artists; was invited to Florence Biennale in 2021.

Over the course of his career, Yang has developed his own style that integrates Western sculptural language with Eastern humanistic qualities. His work depicts a clear, rigorous style and logic of Western figurative sculpture with his thought and meditation over years. In short, Yang’s sculptures are a manifestation of his worldview toward life and nature. His work can be found in museums and private collections around the world.

Don’t miss Yang Dong at Red Dot Miami 2022 November 30 – December 4th at Mana Wynwood.

Q: Introduce yourself — who you are and what your vision as an artist is?

A: Hi! I’m Natalia Fedner, and I am mainly known as a wearable art designer for celebrities. My clients include Beyonce, Cher, Lenny Kravitz, and many others. The pandemic brought me back to my fine art roots, and I started to work on sculptures and wall art in 2020. After a very successful initial show at Art Basel Scope art fair in 2021, I decided to focus more energy on the art side of my career. My vision as an artist is helping others experience the world through texture- using my patented 6-way stretch metal textile as the conduit. I love it when people interact with my pieces – please do touch them!

Q: What is your background?

A: I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, and immigrated to Ohio when I was 6 years old.

Q: What is your work philosophy and how does that impact your work?

A: Work hard, work uniquely, and be kind. I like to invent new things- new techniques. It takes hard work and long hours to be a self-funded business owner, but it’s equally important to be nice to people. I really think kindness and personal relationships are the secrets to any long-term success.

Q: What artist(s) inspire you?

A: I like kinetic sculptors like Anthony Howe. I love the fluid lines of Alphonse Mucha. Wearable artist Iris Van Herpen is a contemporary designer who also inspires me with her frequent collaborations with other artists, architects, and scientists. Other artists I enjoy are Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Lempicka, and fashion illustrators Erte and Antonio Lopez.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve received?

A: To be true to me and not change myself to fit anyone else’s vision of me. This advice actually makes it much easier for me to make important business decisions and helps me determine how to best spend my time. I am constantly checking in with myself- and only work on projects that bring me joy. If it doesn’t make me happy, I won’t participate. Life is too short to spend time doing things you don’t love.

Q: When you are not working, where can we find you?

A: Hanging out with my puppy Mia (a black lab mix, we think) and watching 90’s tv show reruns.

Q: What does exhibiting at Red Dot Miami 2022 mean to you?

A: It’s very exciting – I feel like I get to present my art to the world in the exact way I envision it. I visited the fair in 2019 and had so much fun speaking to all the gallerists and artists. Everyone was so friendly. I’m excited to be on the other side this year and can’t wait to meet other artists during the fair!

Q: Introduce yourself — who you are and what your gallery’s vision is?

A: I opened Jen Tough Gallery in the Bay Area of California in February 2017. We moved to Santa Fe, NM a month before the Covid shutdown, and unfortunately, the gallery was never able to open. Fast forward two years, and we’re now remodeling our new space in Santa Fe, with an expected opening in the spring of 2023!

We are thrilled to be running a new artist-focused business called AIR Studios (“AIR” stands for Artists in Residence) which are artist studio rentals by the week, with open studios each and every weekend. We were inspired by the origins of Canyon Road (the famous art gallery area of Santa Fe), which was created by dozens of artists opening their studios to the public. We believe that the future of art selling is changing to a more artist-centered model, and we want to help facilitate that with AIR Studios, where artists can meet and sell directly to the public. Our new building will also feature four exhibition spaces for Jen Tough Gallery, a sculpture garden, and more. We cannot wait for this new chapter!

Q: What is your background?

A: I was part of a very liberal, academic-focused family in a conservative area of Ohio, which helped me live up to my last name. I lived in Scotland as a kid, in Colorado for a bit to be a ski bum, and moved to Los Angeles in the early 90s. I have a BFA (general fine arts) from Ohio State University, attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati for foundation work and Parsons / The New School for study in West Africa. I am the former art director for Urban Outfitters, Warner Bros Records, and numerous magazines. My clients included a variety of creative work for Drew Carey and several years in branding and design for Nike.

Q: What is your work philosophy and how does that impact the gallery?

A: I am extremely work-focused and genuinely love working. I enjoy creating new things, working with artists, and watching them succeed. I’m not a big fan of the current gallery system with the top-tier mega galleries shutting out the vast majority of artists, dealers, and buyers, with only 1% being able to take part. Most of the money and authority have now stagnated at the top, leaving new talent shut out. I just can’t see this as being a good thing for society in the general long term. I believe that the time is right for artists to take back the selling and exhibiting process, and I hope that AIR Studios can help facilitate that by giving artists a beautiful place to create and show their work to the public.

Q: What artists and art styles do you represent?

A: I have a wide variety of art and artists that I exhibit and represent, from abstract expressionists like Sarah Boyts Yoder to photo collage work by Liz Steketee, to quirky drawings by Laura Klopfenstein. I like to have a diverse roster from artists all over the US.

Q: What artist(s) inspire you?

A: I’m always inspired by artists who persevere and keep working despite the enormous barriers now present, especially for emerging or “re-emerging” older artists. I also have art crushes on Robert Gober, Mark Bradford, Diane Arbus, Banksy, Amy Sherald, Joseph Beuys, Robert Motherwell and Jenny Holzer… too many to list!

Q: What is the best advice you’ve received?

A: I’ve received so much incredible wisdom from my dear friend Drew Carey over the years. Namely, stay optimistic, work hard and don’t look for shortcuts, and always be kind.

Q: When you are not working, where can we find you?

A: At an art event or museum, trying to grow things in NM soil, reading, exploring New Mexico, or hiking in gorgeous Santa Fe with my two dogs, daughter and husband.

Q: What does exhibiting at Red Dot Miami 2022 mean to you?

A: I’m super excited about this year’s Red Dot! After two years of shutdowns and limited travel, I think this fair is going to be incredible! I love exhibiting with Redwood Art Group because they are in my opinion, the most artist and gallery-friendly group running fairs today. I cannot wait!
